This morning I drew the Whale medicine card from the David Carson and Jamie Sams Medicine Cards set. (If you do not know these cards, do explore them for yourself www.medicinecards.com ) Whale is the Record Keeper of the planet -
Start by choosing flowers that you love -
Next, turn off all noise. Don't answer the phone. Don't answer the door.
Get a vase or container that you love.
Lay your flowers out on a clear surface with gentleness. Treat them with respect and grace. These flowers have put a tremendous amount of energy into growing and being who they are, here, in front of you. Honour this. Don't just 'bung 'em in' to your vase. Look at each one. I mean REALLY LOOK. Observe the infinite and magical detail of each one. A work of art right before your very eyes.
And LISTEN to each flower. What word is it saying? What note is it playing? If you 'think' you cannot hear either, then maybe you can feel it instead. If still nothing, then simply allow yourself to play with the flowers, and arrange them in a way which makes your heart sing. Put them in your chosen container in a way which makes you smile, laugh, feel great. It's not a creative challenge that your mind is going to give you marks out of 10 on afterwards. This is a sacred connection with the Great Spirit of each flower. A sacred moment in time. A meditative moment, a peaceful moment to immerse yourself in.
And when you are done, stand back for a moment to look at the creation that you -
He also says, "Before the advent of speech and the primordial language, hand signs were used, and many tribes were silent most of the time."
This is unthinkable in our Western society today. Bombarded every second of every day with billions of sounds and messages, mainly via our excessive exposure to, and ingesting of, information via technology, being silent is unimaginable to most.
So many people say to me "Oh, I have tried meditation and it doesn't work. I can't shut my mind up." Why am I not surprised by these words, when they have spent every second of everyday for the last 10, 20 years plus filled with noise, words, sounds that are anything other than a resonance of primordial language and sound?
If you can't "shut your mind up", then start by arranging flowers with spirit. What do I mean by this?
In my blog The Wisdom of Flowers, I talk about the healing language of flowers. Each flower's shape, colour, size, number of petals, scent or no scent, whether it loves sun, shade, dry or wet conditions all has meaning (the Doctrine of Signatures). Alongside this information, each flower has an energetic signature -
Nature holds a complete library of information, waiting for us to decode it.
And what's the benefit to us if we do decode it?
I believe -
Why bother improving this connection?
Because it brings personal power, strength and understanding of how life works. And at a time when we are moving from a "mechanistic, fragmented paradigm to a holistic, connected paradigm" as talked about by Ervin Laslo, Philosopher of Science, twice nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize, and founder of The Ervin Laslo Center for Advanced Study, ALL of nature, not just flowers, offers us the medicine we are looking for at a soul level -
